미국 Stereophile紙 Class A 선정 !!
Super HL5의 진수는 중립적인 중역에 있다. 고역은 균형이 잘 잡혀 있고, 호쾌하며, 달콤하다. 분명 발생하는데도 들을 수 없는 것은 들을 수 있게 될 때 문제가 된다. CD upsampling이 어필하는 한 이유다. 개나 고양이에게 물어 보라.
Super HL5는 저렴한 스피커가 아니다. 그러나, 싸게 만들어진 스피커도 아니다. 제작은 대부분 수공으로 이루어진다. 캐비닛 하나하나 조심스럽게 조립되고 튜닝된다. 스피커 벽이 얇은데 그렇게 디자인된 것이다. 즉 악기처럼 공명하도록 고안된 것이다.
Super HL5의 다른 면을 보자. 이 스피커는 광대역 스피커다. (편집장에게 - 이 스피커를 "Recommended Components" 중 "Limited Low-frequency Response" 범주에 넣지 마시길). 주파수 대역은 "개방된 공간에서" 40Hz - 24kHz +/- 3dB다. 이 말은 이 스피커를 코너로 몰아 넣거나 벽에 바짝 붙이지 말라는 뜻으로 해석된다. 스피커가 숨을 쉬고 노래할 수 있도록 공간을 주어라.
Super HL5는 발군의 저음을 갖고 있다고 생각한다. 아들 데이빗도 같은 생각을 얘기한다: 풍성하고 여유롭고, 깊고 따뜻하다. 그러면서도 깔끔하다. 여기에 서브 우퍼를 덛붙여 저음을 보강한다고 생각한다면 바보다. 매끄러운 소리를 망칠게 분명하니까...
Super HL5는 내 생애에 만난 몇 안 되는 좋은 스피커 중의 하나다. 한번 들어 보라. 이 보다 더 비싼 스피커에 돈을 써도 이만큼 오래도록 음악적인 만족감을 주는 스피커를 만나지 못할 것이다. 이 스피커는 4반세기 이상 클래식한 스피커로 자리잡았으며, 앞으로도 25년 이상 그러할 것이다. 결코 구입을 후회하지 않을 스피커다.

■ Rewiew of the Super HL5 in 'The Stereo Times' ■
The 60 litre (external) cabinet is, of course, built in the tradition of 'thin-wall' panels that have characterised Harbeth monitors, and both the front and rear panels are attached using 12 brass screws in the traditional way. The crossover comprises 27 components soldered to a high quality glass fibre PCB, and the rear panel features a pair of biwiring terminals. The bass/midrange unit is connected via the crossover to the lower pair and the main tweeter and supertweeter are connected, via their individual crossover components, to the upper pair.
Supported by a pair of good quality stands, the SuperHL5 is capable of fantastic performance: breathtaking transparency - a huge sound stage and a total sense of being immersed in the performance. 
“ Never, at any price or design type, have I heard a speaker that so completely got out of the way and let the music speak for itself. Never have I heard a speaker that exceeds the HL5’s ability to reveal the artistic quality of the music and its performance. Never have I heard a speaker that does so many of the fundamentals of music reproduction so right: timbre, rhythm, phrasing, articulation, parsing, dynamic flow, sound stage reconstruction, placement of instruments, and the delineation of the ambience of the recording site are all produced with an ease and natural-ness so convincing and so adept at evoking musical gestalts that immersion into the music was as easy as breathing.”
